Insulin Resistance, what is it and how can herbs help?

Insulin Resistance, what is it and how can herbs help?

Hello crunchy friends,

Rebekah here again to provide you with knowledge on herbal remedies. Today we are discussing Insulin Resistance.

Let's first discuss what Insulin Resistance is.

Insulin Resistance is a metabolic condition, in which the cells do not respond well to insulin. [Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that allows cells to absorb sugar from the bloodstream.

In a healthy body, insulin will bind to the insulin receptor. It signals a cascade. Transporters move to the cell surface to take in the glucose.

In bodies with Insulin Resistance, the receptors are less sensitive. The signaling pathways get disrupted. Fewer transporters make it to the cell surface.

When this happens, the glucose stays in the blood.

Symptoms of Insulin Resistance-

  • difficulty losing weight
  • weight gain around abdomen
  • fatigue after meals
  • sugar or carb craving
  • skin tags
  • elevated triglycerides
  • low HDL cholesterol
  • high blood pressure

What can happen if we do not fix the problem?

  • type 2 diabetes
  • non alcoholic fatty liver disease
  • cardiovascular disease
  • high blood pressure
  • stroke risk
  • PCOS and infertility issues
  • Alzheimers disease

You can be tested for insulin resistance when you do blood work with your doctor.

How can herbs help with insulin resistance?

We are specifically going to talk about the herbs in our Skip the Shot formula.

Bitter Melon [momordica charantia] may help improve glucose uptake in cells. It helps to stimulate the transporters in the cells. It also improves tolerance to glucose loads.

Oregon Grape Root [berberis aquifolium] contains an active compound called Berberine. Berberine activates AMPK the same metabolic pathway activated by working out, fasting and metformin. It improves glucose uptake, reduces glucose production in the liver, improves fat metabolism.

Clinical studies show similar glucose lowering effects to Metformin.

Want to read the clinical studies for yourself? On Pubmed, search each herb and you can study the clinical results.

We have amazing reviews from our wholesale customers on Skip the Shot. Let herbs help you to find body balance.

Fun information: Cortisol control improves glucose regulation. Pair Skip the Shot with Cortisol Control and work towards a healthier you.

Wishing you health and happiness,

Rebekah
